1. Purpose and Commitment

Education Tomorrow is committed to ensuring permanent access to published scholarly content through robust long-term preservation arrangements. This policy outlines our archiving strategy to guarantee that research remains accessible to future generations of scholars, even in the event of technical failures or institutional changes.

2. Primary Archiving Services

2.1 Zenodo (CERN)

All articles are deposited in Zenodo immediately upon publication. Zenodo is a general-purpose open-access repository operated by CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), ensuring:

• Permanent preservation with institutional backing from CERN
• Digital Object Identifier (DOI) assignment for each article
• Open access to all content without restrictions
• Community collection: https://zenodo.org/communities/education-tomorrow
• Compliance with FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)

2.2 LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

The journal participates in the LOCKSS program through institutional library partnerships. LOCKSS provides distributed preservation through a network of libraries that maintain independent copies of journal content, ensuring redundancy and protection against data loss.

2.3 PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

As an Open Journal Systems (OJS) hosted journal, Education Tomorrow is preserved through the PKP Preservation Network. The PKP PN is a dark archive that provides a safeguard for OJS journals, ensuring content remains accessible even if the journal ceases publication or experiences technical difficulties.

2.4 National Library of Kenya

Print volumes are deposited with the National Library of Kenya as part of legal deposit requirements, ensuring physical preservation of the journal's scholarly record within the national archive.

3. What is Archived

All preserved content includes:

• Full-text articles in HTML and PDF formats
• Complete metadata: author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, abstracts, keywords, references
• DOI assignment and persistent linking information
• License information: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
• Publication dates and version history
• Supplementary materials: tables, figures, datasets (where applicable)

All archived materials adhere to international standards for digital preservation:

• File formats: PDF/A for long-term readability, HTML5 for web access
• Metadata standards: Dublin Core, JATS XML for structured content
• Persistent identifiers: DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for every article
• Checksum verification: SHA-256 checksums to ensure file integrity
• Migration strategy: Regular review and migration to current formats as technology evolves

Archived content remains permanently accessible through:

7. Preservation in Case of Journal Cessation

In the unlikely event that Education Tomorrow ceases publication:

• DOIs will continue to resolve to archived versions
• The Kipchumba Foundation will ensure continuity of access or transfer stewardship to an appropriate institutional partner
• Authors and readers will be notified of any changes to access arrangements

8. Compliance and Monitoring

The journal's archiving practices are reviewed annually to ensure:

• All published content is successfully deposited in all designated archives
• Archiving systems remain operational and compliant with best practices
• Emerging preservation technologies are evaluated for adoption
